Valentines Day: Great One for a Wedding

Do you remember a prayerful moment?  Well, meet my new friend Naha!  She and I have talked on the phone for the last 2 weeks and definitely have a connection.  We attended her wedding on Valentines Day and had a great time.  The moment she entered the room, I began to cry!  She looked absolutely beautiful!

We definitely followed the crowd as this was our first Sikh wedding to attend and was a bit different than the Hindu ceremonies we have attended in the past.  Sikhism is much different than Hinduism, they worship a holy book and gurus of their faith other than statues, and the men are commonly known for wearing turbans. 

 

Dancing, of course, was involved.  The "little drummer boy" would call out different relationships that people had with the bride and groom.  Suddenly, when friends were called, Naha's sister came, took my arm, and dragged me out before the crowd to dance.  Let's just say my few years of dance lessons in elementary school didn't pay off.  But the bride kept smiling so I must have done somewhat of an okay job.  I was thrilled however to find out that my choice of colored suit was Naha's absolute favorite!

We did attend the small prayer gathering in the Sikh Gurudwara, which again, was a first time for us.  We removed our shoes and followed the rule of covering our heads.  My boys even had to do so.  It was completely out of respect for our friends that we followed in their customs.  But honestly?  Have you ever seen such cool looking dudes?  And as the bride and groom made their many walk-a-rounds about the holy book, JP and I were both guided to lift the lovely couple up in prayer.  "May he love her as Christ loved the church and gave himself for it...and may she submit to her husband, being his crown...may we become great friends and have opportunities to model and share, to this young, new married couple, how to have a marriage relationship pleasing in the sight of God."

Although perhaps a bit cliche, there really couldn't be a better day to marry than on Valentines Day: the Day of Love!
