We had some of our friends over Sunday evening for coffee and dessert. We had a wonderful time together. It was great catching up, laughing, and seeing them drink American coffee with Coffemate creamer for the first time. They also loved our apple pie. Their son, who is only 3 years old, was such an angel. He was very well behaved, played with cards, and read some of our favorite children's books we brought from home.
Before we ever meet with any of our friends, we always pray that the Lord will bless our time together and that, as the Lord leads, we will be able to share His love and truth with them as He always teaches us to do. We had done this just before our friends had come over. Again, the evening had already gotten off to such a great start that we couldn't have asked or imagined for it to get any greater. But just as the Lord promises "to do exceeding abundantly above all we can ask or think" our evening became even more amazing! They started asking us about our day and we told them about always having our time with the Lord, having church in our home, and then just other little things we had done. They immediately started asking us more questions about how we read the Bible, and how long we read. JP got out His Bible and showed them an example of what we read this morning. They looked at the Bible like it was the most beautiful treasure they had ever seen. Then they asked if they could hold it and see it closer. We got to explain to them about how the Bible is organized, the different parts and names, and they were so excited and intrigued. We were also able to share many of our favorite verses and a full story that always brings encouragement to us. They asked us if they could get one in Hindi. We asked if they had one. No. Do you want one? With excited faces they said YES! It was so refreshing to sit and talk to friends about the topic we love to converse about the most. Plus it was beautiful to see our friends, for the first time, holding a Bible with such reverence and awe, and to then see their excitement in finding out that they could get one of their own was definitely beyond what we could have asked or thought for the evening.
Have not I commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged! For the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go! -Josh 1:9
