The brown sealed envelope. That is the purpose of Step 4 and is received at the Ministry of Home Affairs in New Delhi. This, by far, is the most complicated or at the least more tiring of all the steps. We again had all our documents in order, extra copies of each, dropped Sawyer off to play with Nay-Nay, and timed it just right so that I could feed Benjamin in the car before going in. It all worked out and we got the "package". But for fun, let me give you our exciting exhausting detailed schedule of the day...PHEW!
8am-Drop Sawyer off at the Hansens
9:30-Arrive at the Ministry of Home Affairs/Feed Benjamin
10:00-Enter the very small, crammed ticket waiting room (purpose: to obtain a pass to enter the building; ticket number when we arrived was 63 and our number was 104).
10:45-Enter the main building, arrive in the interview room, fill out application for Exit Stamp in duplicate and as quickly as possible to get ours put in the stack of all the other people in the room.
11:00-Interview officers arrive and we begin to wait while listening for our number to be yelled out. But just picture around 30 people standing around in a very small space waiting for their number as well and ready to pounce when it's called!
11:15-We wait
11:30-Waiting
11:45-Still waiting and we attempt to use the nasty restroom facilities
12:00-Officer calls out 104 and we begin our "interview". "Who are you? Why are you here? Where's your baby? Let me see your passports. Where's your visa? What do you do? Where's your last entry stamp?" Then nothing.
12:15-We are told to come back at 5 for our envelope; we begin to leave when a LARGE Indian man pushes into me to get ahead in line while I am holding Benjamin and almost knocks me over onto the sea of people sitting around me. OH NO YOU DIDN'T! NOT when I am holding my baby! I yell out STOP and then push him back so I don't fall! He stares in shock that this white girl just did that and he says sorry.
12:30-Head back home
1:30-Pick up Sawyer
1:45-Arrive home for NAPS!!
3:30-The boys and I stay home while JP heads back to Delhi.
4:45-JP arrives and is waiting.
5:30-JP receives brown sealed envelope ONLY to be opened by the FRRO officer the next day for the Exit Stamp.
7:00pm-JP arrives HOME and we are a happy family!
Step 5: Foreigner Registration Office in the Municipal Court of Gurgaon.
